What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?
It's funny. When you're little, you dream about what it is you want to do when you get older. There's always the most common: an astronaut; a policeman; a fireman;a movie star. Then as you grow, your ambitions change. Maybe you begin to see the danger in fighting crime and fires, and you're afraid of heights, so space is out! You go through school, and in some cases, college, and now it becomes tricky. Now you have to really begin to figure it out. You are fast becoming an adult, and with that comes adult things: job, rent, bills, car payments;luxury items that you now have to pay for yourself, since mom and dad are no longer going to foot the bill. Uh, oh. What's happening? So you end up graduating, and you go get that first job. Maybe it's the only job you end up having, and you retire some thirty years down the road. Maybe, you decide that there's something more. Something you really wanted to do, but were either afraid to try or just couldn't risk leaving your steady employment. Either way, to try and continue on sometimes, doing the "right" thing, can be stressful and in some cases, depressing. So now that you are older, it has come full circle, and we find ourselves thinking, "What do I want to be when I grow up?" I figured it out, and it only took me 47 years. But I want to write. And that's what I'm going to do.
