Author uses zombie protagonist to tackle difficult subject of bullies in new children’s book
Edward Kent shows kids how to deal with a bully at school in the non-conventional story of “Stop Bullying Me! I’m a Zombie. So What?”
WEST SENECA, N.Y. – One of the most troubling topics facing parents and their children today is bullying. In his book “Stop Bullying Me! I’m a Zombie. So What?” (ISBN 1466493917), Edward Kent shows children how they can stand up for themselves when confronted by a bully while also sharing how everyone is more alike than some realize.
Ed is a boy who is starting a new school. He is making new friends like any new student does, but there is one boy who dislikes him. Bart does not like Ed because he is different from the other children at the school. While everyone has his or her own unique characteristics, Ed is the only student that is a zombie.
After being bullied by Bart for some time, Ed attempts to find help in how to deal with the situation. He asks his friends, his mother and even the school principal for advice on dealing with a bully. He realizes that the only way to stop a bully is to confront him and show him that the two boys are not that different. In the end, Ed knows that it would be much better if the two could get along.
The book’s rhyming writing style and friendly tone will appeal to the elementary school children Kent hopes to connect with. The illustrations are humorous and allow the book to be perceived as a fun tale even with its important and quite serious lesson.
Kent’s inspiration for the book came from the combination of recent bullying stories he’s seen in the news and his time as an elementary school teacher.
“Being a former teacher, I have been inspired to write stories using the Zombie Ed character. Recent events in my county in Western New York involving bullying and suicides have really caused me to stop and think, and come up with a way that I might contribute to stopping this growing problem,” Kent says.

“Stop Bullying Me! I’m a Zombie. So What?” is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
